OACHE
Peggy has been working with Brenda Haas from OACHE and Melissa Higgs-Horwell of SCOCA to provide folks from OACHE and other agenices with some quick technology training. We are calling the project "School 2.0" and we have set up a wiki for this collaboration effort at oache.pbwiki.com.

What is "social bookmarking?"
Social bookmarking is a way to store and categorize your "bookmarks" or "favoites" online so that they are
- available from any computer (your classroom, home, or a computer lab)
- shareable (with other teachers, your students or parents)
- collaborative (research projects, lesson planning, etc.)
This short video from Common Craft explains "Social Bookmarking" using Del.ico.us as an example:
There are many sites for Social Bookmarking, but we'll concentrate on these 4:
- SiteJot (simple lists sorted by categories)
- Del.icio.us (full featured site with sharing and tagging capabilities)
- Diigo (full featured site with added social annotation features)
- Scholar (available only through BlackBoard)
Rationale
- Taming the Beast By: Richardson, Will. School Library Journal, Mar2007, The article focuses on the advantages of using social bookmarking websites such as Del.icio.us and CiteULike and Conotea. The sites enable librarians and other computer users who come across resources such as text, audio, or video on the Internet that they want to access and use again to save them. - All Together Now from School Library Journal, January 2007, The article looks at how social bookmarking offers a new way to store and share Web sites. Social bookmarking allows multiple users to save their favorite Web sites, articles, and even podcasts on the Web, instead of inside your brower. According to the article, social bookmarking is becoming a popular way for teachers and students to store, classify, share, and search links which are gathered by many users. The article discusses how librarians can use this tool. social bookmarking slj.pdf
