...providing technology services that enhance teaching and learning.

eTech Ohio is seeking applications for competitive professional development grants in the amount of $20,000 each to teachers in grades 9-12. These grants will support the creation and use of electronic portfolios (ePortfolios) in Open Source Portfolio (OSP).

As part of this two-year grant, school building(s) within a district may apply for up to $20,000 with a plan for utilizing ePortfolios to integrate technology and support state academic content standards. At most, one building per district may be awarded a grant.

Program Requirements:

  • A minimum of one or a maximum of two teachers from a school building may jointly apply for a grant.
  • Teachers must participate in a Technical Assistance Audio prior to applying for the grant.
  • The building principal, technology coordinator, instructional integrationist and/or curriculum director from the school must be supportive of the teachers' use of ePortfolios.
  • The superintendent must sign a letter of support and must also agree that they will obtain a data release from each parent of those students who will be creating ePortfolios.

In order to begin the process of applying for a grant, an online Letter of Intent must be completed and submitted by 5:00 PM (EDT) on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 (no mail, faxes or emails will be accepted). Districts not submitting a Letter of Intent will not be allowed to submit a grant application.

Grant information, including the Request for Proposals, is available online at http://www.etech.ohio.gov/programs/pd_comp/index.jsp . For questions or more information, please contact Sandra Paxton, sandy.paxton@etech.ohio.gov

When you hang out with "techies," you always learn something... Such was the case at our School 2.0 Kick-off this week. Melissa and I needed to alternate use of the screen with 2 projectors and we thought we would have to mess with the projector, but alas, Don to the rescue! Low and behold, if you're in Presentation Mode, just type a "B" on the keyboard and the screen will go black! It works on both Mac and Windows... Great tip Don, thanks!

I can't really take all the credit for this little tidbit, Lauren showed it to me.... How cool to be able to plot your walking/running path online and get it to calculate the calories burned online! Not sure this fits the bill for classroom related (maybe PE), but it sure is cool! I plotted my route - you can have a look at

Here is some information regarding Praxis III Assessor Training:
One of the best pieces of professional development an educator can have is the Praxis III Assessor Training. Assessors are needed who teach in any field, particularly primary education, science, and math. We currently have assessors who are classroom teachers, principals, superintendents, vocational teachers, prison teachers, professors in teacher education, entry year program coordinators, and supervisors. Whatever the educator's current role, the professional development comes back to the schools in several ways by encouraging others (e.g., entry year teachers, mentors, other classroom teachers) to maintain the high teaching standards as set forth by ETS in their Pathwise mentoring programs, a part of the mentor support required for first year teachers by our state legislature and the Ohio Department of Education. It also provides the common language for a framework that encourages student involvement in the promotion of lessons that teach to extend learning. Finally, it heightens awareness of the teaching standards needed in order to pass Praxis III, required for an entry year teacher to advance to a 5-year license.

Praxis III Assessor Training will be offered in the Ross-Pike County Educational Service District, 475 Western Avenue, Chillicothe, in the conference
room. Training is free of charge. Dates are:

Monday, June 12 9am-2pm
Tuesday-Friday, June 13-16 8am-5pm
Thursday and Friday, July 6 & 7 8am-5pm

If you are interested, or if you know someone who would be a reliable
assessor for Praxis III, please get involved.

Applications must be filed online and are available at this website:
http://www.ode.state.oh.us/teaching-profession/teacher/professional_development/ey_assessment.asp
Click on Praxis III Assessors on the right-hand side bar. Look at
